Short film competition and collateral events at Golden Rose
Traditionally, this year’s edition of Golden Rose sustains the trend in an increase in the number and improved quality of short films.
A total of 43 features and shorts made in 2016 have been selected to vie at this year’s edition of Golden Rose. Of them, six have received support by Bulgarian National Film Center: May Be Tomorrow by Martin Iliev; Snails by Albena Puneva; Trials by Lyubomir Pechevр Identification by Toma Waszarow; Rules by Yassen Genadiev and The Nights of a Lonely Messenger by Andrey Koulev. Some of the movies were made by students at NATFA and New Bulgarian University, others were produced by NoBlink!Studio and still others, by private companies. New works by Boya Harizanova, Yana Titova, Stefani Raycheva, Simeon Sokerov, Jonathan Heidelberger, Elena Toncheva, Kaloyan Paterkov, Mina Mileva & Vesela Kazakova will be screened along with several debut short features. The collateral events at Golden Rose include two exhibitions.
eMOTION show by photographer Temelko Temelkov was unveiled on 30 September, in the foyer of the Festival and Congress Center, Varna. A special selection of 14 photographs is on display by the author hailed for his fashion pictures, portraits of celebrities, adds and his work on a number of projects and exhibitions.
An exhibition dedicated to director of photography Boncho Karastoianov’s work on Earth by Zachary Zhandov (1957) opened doors on 1 October (Sunday) at Varna City Art Gallery. The exhibition was mounted in collaboration with Bulgarian National Film Archive and curated by Ivo Hajjimishev with the financial support of the Gipson Archive, featuring photographs made during the shooting of the film and kept in the collections of the Archive.
